The state could fully cover the excise duties on diesel fuel for small and medium-sized farmers and in the amount of 30% for large farmers who have assets of over 50 million lei and high financial potential. The measure comes to alleviate the negative effect of the rise in the price of diesel fuel and forms part of a package of urgent measures aimed at reducing the negative impact on farmers, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea stated in a news conference.

“To reduce the negative impact of the increase in the price of diesel fuel, it was decided to fully cover the excise duty on diesel fuel, which is 2.95 lei per liter of diesel fuel, up to 64 tonnes of diesel fuel that is used by a business entity,” said Vladimir Bolea.

In the case of processing companies, a fund consisting of 93 million lei will be created with money from the Government’s state reserve for covering the excise duties on diesel fuel and crude oil used in production processes. According to the minister, together with the Ministry of Finance, they will work out regulations for providing subsidies. The measure applies to factories that can switch over from natural gas to crude oil.

The acting director of the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture Diana Koshalyk said the National Agriculture and Rural Development Fund for the first time consists of 1 750 000 000 lei. “The Agency has never managed such a sum that fully comes directly from the state budget. The financial resources are being distributed to a number of support programs,” stated Diana Koshalyk.

For the first semester, over 2,100 agricultural producers asked for financial support for paying the excise duty on the used gasoline until November 30. Those who will use diesel fuel in autumn, until November 15, can file applications for the second semester.
