Former Prime Minister Vlad Filat on February 6 was escorted to court to take part in a hearing in the second criminal case started against him, IPN reports.

Asked by journalists about his declarations concerning his revelations that will blow up the political class that he made on the day of his arrest, Vlad Filat asked if the political class still exists and if he has what to blow up. Asked what he thought about the second criminal case against him, the ex-Premier said this was started in connection with the upcoming elections.

Filat’s lawyer Victor Munteanu told the press that the law provides the case is sent to court by the same prosecutor who collected the evidence. In this case, the document by which the case was sent to court was signed by another prosecutor.

Asked to comment, prosecutor Elena Kazakov said the court will decide if the procedures were correct or not. She noted she cannot give more details because it is the preliminary stage of the trial.

On January 16, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office announced that a new case against Vlad Filat over money laundering in considerable amounts was sent to court. Lawyer Victor Munteanu said then the case is evidently political and electoral in character.

Vlad Filat was arrested in October 2015, being later convicted to nine years in jail for passive corruption and influence peddling. He serves his sentence at Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau. In the second criminal case, he faces another ten years behind bars.
