The former Prime Minister Ion Chicu announced the creation of the Party of Development and Unity of Moldova. His team includes members of the Government he led, namely ex-minister of health Viorica Dumbrăveanu, ex-minister of economy Anatol Usatyi and ex-secretary general of the Government Liliana Iaconi. According to the ex-Premier, the main objective of their party will be to develop and modernize Moldova by uniting society and integrating the state into the European Union, IPN reports.
Besides the fomenter ministers, Ion Chicu’s team consists of the secretary of state at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research Ivan Gheorghiu, division head at the State Chancellery Natalia Postică and division heads at the Ministry of Health Djulieta Popescu and Elena Gavriliță.
The initiative group also includes the director general of the Organizations for the Development of the Sector of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Iulia Costin, mayor of Hâncești municipality Alexandru Botnari, director of the Dermatology and Communicable Diseases Hospital Iulian Oltu, director of the Municipal Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco” Alexandru Holostenco, vice director of the Mother and Child Institute Vasile Tomuz, and vice director of the Buiucani Local Medical Association Marina Golovaci, former secretary of state at the Ministry of Health.
“Our key goal is to create all the conditions for integrating the Republic of Moldova into the European Union as this is the only possibility of keeping our statehood, improving the people’s living standards and exploring the contemporary development opportunities. The integration into the EU is the only chance for reintegrating the Transition region. The achievement of the European integration objective will be an additional support in our aspirations to build cooperation relations based on mutual respect with all the countries of the world, especially our strategic partners,” Ion Chicu posted on social media.
In January 2018, Ion Chicu was named secretary general of state at the Ministry of Finance. In December 2018 – June 2019, he served as minister of finance in the Government of Pavel Filip. In July 2019, he was appointed adviser to President Igor Dodon. He held this post until November the same year, when he was proposed for Prime Minister. Ion Chicu headed the Cabinet since November 2019 until December 23, 2020.
