A former inspector of the Ocnita Police Commissariat was sentenced to five years in jail, but put on probation for a two-year period for artificially raising the number of discovered offences in order to improve his work rating, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to prosecutors, on October 8, 2010, the former police officer drew up an examination report on the spot, including false data in it. Under the document falsified by the inspector, two cigarettes with about 2 grams of marijuana were found on a person travelling by the Chisinau – Ocnita route. The policeman also invented an explanation in the name of the ‘culprit’, who would have admitted his guilt, and then put his signature.

Afterward, an administrative case was started against the victim for illegal keeping of drugs. The case became known when the ‘culprit’ was summoned to the Prosecutor’s Office to provide explanations. The prosecutors ordered an investigation into this case. Consequently, a criminal case was started against the anti-drug inspector and the narcologist doctor who acted in collusion with him. The prosecution of the doctor, who was changed with falsifying public documents and abuse of power, was suspended on health grounds.

The police officer was dismissed from post immediately after the criminal case was started against him. Earlier, he was accused of torturing a person and of committing a hit-and-run road accident that resulted in the serious injuring of a person.

The Prosecutor’s Office appealed the decision to the Balti Court of Appeals, asking for a more severe punishment.
