Former MP of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Alexandru Slusari said he definitely supports the idea of eliminating the contest for choosing the director of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) that was proposed by MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity. According to him, when the system of the central public administration and the judiciary are yet powerfully affected by the influence of the political-criminal groups, it is impossible to hold authentic contests, IPN reports.

“Political assumption for the legitimate Parliament and Government is necessary. I’m glad that our mates from PAS learned the lessons of contemporary history. By the way, PPPDA had exactly the same position in the summer of 2019. The first crisis in the temporary alliance with PSRM occurred namely because of the so-called contest at NAC. Our parliamentary group refused to vote for Dodon’s candidate as director and my only regret as regards voting in the previous legislature is the fact that we allowed to be convinced then by PSRM and PAS,” the ex-MP posted on Facebook.

Alexandru Slusari noted that namely PPPDA refused to legalize the results of that mimicked contest with judges of the Constitutional Court. “In perspective, our intransigent position played a decisive role in strengthening the Constitutional Court as an independent institution and fully removing the mafia regime. I’m yet a little bewildered why Nichiforciuc’s man remains at the Public Services Agency, why Dodon’s man remains at the National Food Safety Agency and Voicu’s man remains at the Material Reserves Agency. I hope it goes to technical aspects, but I expected they will be dismissed at the first meeting of the new executive,” said the former MP.

He also said he does not understand why the agenda of the Parliament’s extraordinary sitting does not include the examination of the report of the commission of inquiry into the property of trade unions a part of which was sold with serious deviations in the interests of Shor and Plahotniuc. “It’s not clear for me why nothing is done in relation to the Laundromat report was compiled by the commission led by Inga Grigoriu,” stated Alexandru Slusari.

PAS MPs registered a bill providing that hat the NAC director should be appointed by Parliament by a majority of votes of MP, at the suggestion of at least 20 MPs, with the approval of the legal commission for appointments and immunities. Currently, the NAC director is chosen at a contest organized by the legal commission.

The Party of Socialists criticized the initiative, saying the appointments without a contest in law enforcement agencies, including the National Anticorruption Center, represent politicization and political subordination of these institutions as well as political control over justice. According to the party, society wants namely the depoliticization of these institutions so that they function independently from political parties, from the legislative and executive powers.
