Former minister of justice in the Communist period Ion Morei was arrested on November 22 in a case concerning land fraud schemes. Six more current and former functionaries were arrested in the same case, IPN reports.
According to press officer of the National Anticorruption Center Angela Starinski, prosecutors and anticorruption officers carried out searches in the morning and then arrested seven persons. Among those escorted to the Center were an ex-deputy minister of agriculture and a division head of the Ministry of Agriculture, a division head of the Agency for Land Relations and Cadaster and an ex-head of the National Police Inspectorate.
The quoted source also said that the operation goes on.
Ion Morei was prosecutor of Balti municipality and then served as minister of justice in 2001-2003. Afterward, until 2009, Morei held the post of secretary of the Supreme Security Council under ex-Communist President Vladimir Voronin.
