A former head of the Taraclia local office of the State Main Tax Inspectorate is accused of abuse of power with serious consequences. He faces 6 to 10 years in jail and will be unable to hold particular posts for a period of up to five years, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, at the end of 2008, the accused, who then headed the Taraclia local office of the State Main Tax Inspectorate, illegally ordered annulling for a day the order on the suspension of operations on the bank accounts of a company. The order was issued because the company didn’t pay taxes of 4.5 million lei.
Thus, over 9 million lei was transferred that day from the firm’s accounts to other economic entities. The overdue sum of 4.5 million lei wasn’t paid into the state budget. The money was used by the company for other purposes. According to the prosecutors, serious damage was caused to the public interests by these acts.
