The Prosecutor General’s Office completed the investigation and sent to court the criminal case started against the former deputy prosecutor of Basarabeasca district over professional negligence that resulted in the death of a person, IPN reports.

The criminal case was started in March after serious illegalities were determined in the accused’s actions that resulted in very grave and irreparable consequences.

When investigating a case of domestic violence used by a local man against his wife and minor child, the ex-deputy prosecutor of Basarabeasca every time ordered suspending the criminal prosecution, arguing that the man was seriously ill and the investigation of the case with his participation is not possible. Thus, the case should be dropped.

The prosecutor brought the aggressor to justice after the man’s wife died as a result of the permanent maltreatment to which she was subjected by her husband, including beating with the hammer. In July 2014, the culprit was sentenced to 15 years in jail.

At the end of 2014, the prosecutor was dismissed for the reason that his decisions were groundless and unsubstantiated. The criminal case against him was remitted to the Basarabeasca Court. He faces up to six years in jail and ban on holding particular public posts or performing particular activities for a period of up to ten years.
