Former minister of defense Vitalie Marinuța considers the so-called special operation of Russia in Ukraine is a failure and Moscow will suffer a crushing defeat in this war. Marinuța said Russia overestimated its military possibilities and underestimated Ukraine’s defense capacities. For his part, the executive director of Promo-Lex Ion Manole is convinced that Ukraine will not accept the conditions imposed by Russia’s delegation to the negotiations. However, as a result of these discussions, Kyiv can agree on humanitarian corridors to help the citizens from besieged cities, IPN reports.
Vitalie Marinuța said Putin was incorrectly informed about the Russian army’s potential, while the investments made in the army the last ten years turned out to be a waste.
“The plans designed in the offices of the Kremlin or FSB didn’t come true and will never come true. The Ukrainians made huge effort to combine forces and to defend every inch of their land. It’s clear that the so-called liberation of Donetsk and Luhansk is not the goal. A blitz offensive on Kyiv is the real goal. The Kremlin leader also wanted to swiftly occupy the south of Ukraine and reach Odessa and to build that “Little Russia”. But we see that he didn’t even manage to establish a terrestrial bridge between Crimea and these two secessionist regions. This is already a defeat for the Russian Federation. It is an additional proof that he didn’t learn the lessons in Chechnya and Georgia,” Vitalie Marinuța stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
The executive director of Promo-Lex Association said he does not believe in the possibility of reaching a compromise at the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations. The conditions imposed by Russia are inacceptable for Ukraine after the country already sustained colossal losses.
“We see Kyiv’s wish to negotiate and obtain humanitarian corridors for the people trapped there so as to supply them with food, water, clothes. There are settlements without heat and electricity. Ukraine needs these negotiations so as to provide the people with what they need. The Russian Federation wants to press Ukraine to recognize Crimea as Russian territory and the independence of the two separatist enclaves. Ukraine cannot accept this as it already paid a too high price,” said Ion Manole, noting Russia will most probably not accept Israel’s mediation services.
According to official data presented by the UN Refugee Agency, over 2.8 million people fled Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion. Most of the refugees stopped in Poland, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Hungary.
