The former Ambassador of Moldova to the Russian Federation Andrei Neguța was questioned by prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases. He denied having been involved in the smuggling of anabolic steroids, but the prosecutors anyway decided to detain him for 72 hours, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office
The prosecutors will examine the suspect’s statements and will decide whether to charge the ex-ambassador and to ask for a warrant for his arrest or not.
The driver of the minibus with a diplomatic license plate travelling on the Moscow-Chisinau-Moscow route, in which anabolic steroids were found at a Moldovan customs post on December 5, being estimated at over 8 million lei, and another suspect were arrested.
Andrei Neguța was discharged from the post of ambassador on December 9. Prime Minister Ion Chicu said then this decision was taken following the shameful act witnessed several days ago. “It’s clear that it is at least the indirect responsibility of the head of the diplomatic mission and he should thus answer,” noted the official.
