Evolution of Pay TV services in nine months

The segments of the pay TV market developed differently in the first nine months of this year. The IP TV market continued to growth, while the cable TV market to decline. This trend became more accentuated in the last four quarters, the ICT regulator ANRCETI has said, quoted by IPN.

According to the data provided by 78 active pay TV providers, the number of subscribers to IP TV rose by 8% to over 67,700, while the revenues from this service increased by 0.4 million lei compared with the same period last year to over 40.9 million lei.

The number of subscribers to cable TV decreased by 5.6% to 197,500, while the revenues from this service fell by 10.25 million lei to 70.7 million lei.

A part of the subscribers to cable TV migrated to alternative TV services, such as those through the Internet (free or for money), through satellite (free or for money) and through IP TV (for money). The given services are provided in digital format, while most of the cable TV operators offered TV services in analog format.

The largest pay TV providers had the following market shares in the period: SA Moldtelecom – of 29.8%, SRL Sun Communications – of 29.4%, SRL TV BOX – of 6.5%, SRL AMT – of 3.8%. The other 74 providers had together a market share of 30.3%.
