The EVO government application is planned to be launched this spring and the first documents available online will be the identity card, the driver’s license and the vehicle registration certificate, said the director of the Public Services Agency (ASP) Mircea Eșanu. According to him, they are now working on the authentication part, which must be extremely secure, IPN reports.

“The physical documents will be available in electronic format. We will have a kind of digital wallet of the documents that we issue physically. What does this mean? We equated the documents issued by ASP with those available in this application in terms of their legality. This means that when you want to open a bank account or make a power of attorney at the notary, you will be able to use these electronic documents. There will be tools through which notaries, bank officials or officials from other state institutions will be able to verify the authenticity of the presented documents,” Mircea Eșanu stated in the program “At 360 Degrees” on Radio Moldova station.

“We endeavored to be among the first with these services closer to the citizens. We also see it as a form of maintaining contact with those from the diaspora. We are planning a whole series of subsequent electronic services, which are to be launched this year namely through this key of digital documents,” stated the ASP director.

He voiced hope that the application will be launched this spring. According to Mircea Eșanu, ASP has everything ready, but several aspects are to be finalized by the e-Governance Agency and the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization. “The form of authentication, including on this platform, was the main problem. How does the phone or computer know that you are who you say you are? It goes to the security of one’s own information to which outsiders cannot have access. This form of authentication must be extremely secure. It’s remote authentication that would include facial recognition elements. And having an electronic signature will be mandatory,” said Mircea Eșanu.

According to him, for now all the European Union member states, without exception, issue documents physically. Thus, the persons who will hold the documents in electronic format will have to hold and present the physical document when they will want to leave the Republic of Moldova.

The ASP director expressed his hope that from next year, no later than March 2025, a new identity card will be accessible – the citizen’s identity card that will fully meet the European requirements and will also have an information carrier. The big advantage of the new identity cards is that they will enable to travel within the EU, without needing a passport.
