Wherever they are, in the country or abroad, and regardless of their social status, every citizen of the Republic of Moldova must have the right to fair and equitable justice, Stanislav Kopetski, state secretary of the Ministry of Justice, stated in a public debate hosted by IPN News Agency.

According to the official, the Ministry has made efforts and continues to pursue policies to ensure the citizen's right to access justice.

Stanislav Kopetski said that a primary objective is the digitization of trials: "Digital interaction will facilitate access to justice. Now citizens, no matter where they are, will be able to access the services of a lawyer. Another solution would be videoconferences when hearing participants in the trial. The efficiency and quality of the act of justice are important."

Citizens’ trust in justice must be high. In this regard, the Ministry is developing a series of mechanisms. The authorities want the citizen to feel protected in the Republic of Moldova, to feel quality in justice, to feel that their rights and freedoms are respected, said the official.

He reminded that a process of evaluation of prosecutors was launched and this is expected to bring greater confidence in justice.

"We hope to increase confidence with the completion of the vetting process and the completion of the exercise that the boards of the SCM, the SCP, all judges and prosecutors should do," said Stanislav Kopetski.

Citizens' trust is also ensured through the policies pursued by the Ministry of Justice. However, in addition to them, it is important that the law enforcement agencies apply these policies, the secretary of state added.

"On the one hand, there is justice and everything that is related to the justice sector reform, the development of mechanisms to facilitate judicial processes, and the observance of the rights and freedoms of the citizen is another direction. These two priority directions for the Ministry of Justice are often at the crossroads," concluded Stanislav Kopetski.

The public debate entitled "Citizens' trust in justice, developments and assessments" was staged within the project "IPN News Agency for Social Cohesion and a Pro-European Moldova", funded by IMS.
