Political analyst Andrei Iovu does not believe that the head of state will be elected on January 15. “I think we entered a period of absolute tiredness. On the one hand, society is tired of not having a President. On the other hand, the parties are tired of the idea of electing the head of state,” the analyst stated for Info-Prim Neo. Andrei Iovu said no solution was found even after the government and the opposition met to discuss. “It is not much time left until January 12 (the deadline for submitting applications for the presidency –e.n.). Everybody sees that not only political interests are pursued. There are much more serious things at internal level. We did not see an active dialogue on the identification of a candidate,” said the analyst. According to Andrei Iovu, the fact that the Constitutional Court will examine the application concerning the nonconstitutionality of the December 16 elections is not at all accidental. “I don’t think it is an arbitrarily elected date, especially given the politicization of the institutions in Moldova,” said the analyst. Andrei Iovu stated that things inside the Alliance for European Integration do not move on, as they initially agreed. “They distributed the posts and there was a lot of politicization. I do not know such a historical precedent. Thus is against the democratic principles and the European partners are bewildered as the ministries cannot be distributed as private property,” he said. He also said that if Marian Lupu runs in the January 15 elections, he will lose credibility. In the December 16 elections, Marian Lupu - the only candidate, of the AEI – did not poll the necessary number of votes. New elections were set for January 15. The PDM’s chairman said he will no more run in the presidential elections so as to allow identifying a compromise candidate who may poll at least 61 votes.
