Events to commemorate 25th anniversary of Nistru war

The authorities plan to stage a series of events to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the war for defending the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova. The participants in the war will be conferred state and departmental awards, including posthumously. The invalids and families of those who died will receive lump-sums in assistance. The Ministry of the Interior published a relevant draft Government decision on particip.gov.md for public consultations, IPN reports.

On March 2, when it is marked the Memory Day, services will be held at churches and flowers will be laid at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy. There will be mounted a Memory March from the Great National Assembly Square to the Memorial Complex “Eternity”, where a meeting will be held to commemorate the heroes killed in battle and a commemoration meal will be provided. Flowers will be also laid at the monument “Grieving Mother”.

On the Memory Day, the education institutions of all levels and the military units will stage patriotic education and commemoration lessons, where a moment’s silence will be observed.

In the course of March, there will be held a scientific conference entitled “1992 – memory and topicality” and launched the revised Memory Book in memory of the heroes killed in battle. Book exhibitions will be mounted at the National Library.

The Nistru armed conflict started on March 2, 1992. The ceasefire agreement was signed on July 21, 1992 by the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation.
