Events to celebrate Union Day to be launched this evening

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Union of 1918 that resulted in the constitution of a unitary Romanian state, which is marked on December 1, the Alliance for the Centenary will stage a series of events in Moldova and Romania.

In a news conference at IPN, coordinator of the Moldova’s Youth Association Otilia Dascăl said the events will be launched on the pedestrian street in Chisinau at 6pm on November 30. There will be lit 100 blue, yellow and red candles that will be arranged in the form of digit 100. The Union Round Dance as the symbol of the national unity of Romanians everywhere will be danced around the candles. There will be placed two boards for those who want to leave unionist, patriotic messages. The nicest message will be later awarded.

After the event, four trucks with Romanians will set off for Romania’s Alba Iulia to take part in events that will be held there to celebrate the Great Union. “By these events, we want to show that the unionists from Bessarabia and not only can be everywhere. On December 1, we will be present in Alba Iulia and also in Chisinau. We will try to take part in all the events and to grow the unionist message further,” stated Otilia Dascăl.

The head of the National Unity Bloc Ion Leashchenko said the National Day of Romania and the union centenary in Chisinau will be marked on December 1 by laying flowers at the monument to ruler Stephan the Great, at 9am. At 10am, a moment’s silence will be observed at the Cemetery of Romanian Heroes, followed by a march to the monument of deportees in the square of the Railway Terminal and then to the monument to Stephan the Great in central Chisinau, where the event will end with the Union Round Dance. A concert of patriotic songs will be given in the square of the National Opera House “Maria Bieșu” staring at 3pm.

The representative of the National Unity Bloc Lucia Vieru said the events to celebrate the Union Day that will be organized by the Alliance for the Centenary in Alba Iulia on December 1 will start with a 6 km union march from the Railway Terminal to the Union Park at 8am. The official program also includes a military parade, an exhibition, a performance of folk and patriotic songs and the unveiling of a union monument.
