The actions in Balti regarding the organization of a local referendum and the PSD letter which recognizes Yevgeny Shevchuk as the “president of the Moldovan Republic on Nistru” are but a series of orchestrated actions meant to destabilize the situation in Moldova, to undermine the idea of European integration and to return Moldova to the control sphere of the Russian Federation. The opinion was voiced by Oazu Nantoi, expert in the Transnistrian conflict. He told Info-Prim Neo that the two actions were most likely linked. “If Mister Victor Selin allows himself to make such statements, what’s there left to say about this state and the defenders of the Moldovan statehood?”, said Oazu Nantoi. According to the analyst, the second article of the Constitution stipulates that the usurpation of state power is the worst crime. As a result, all the self-styled presidents, ministers on the left bank of the Nistru are accomplices in committing serious crimes. “If we look at the truth, the smugglers on both sides of the Nistru spit on the Constitution. It’s a certainty that some of them had political backing over the two decades, including in Chisinau”. Oazu Nantoi said that there was more than one perception of the conflict in the eastern districts of Moldova and namely two versions of political shortsightedness. One is that the so-called political parties get hysterical when someone touches the topic of the union of Romania, but are indifferent when the Russian Federation defies the integrity, sovereignty and the neutral status of Moldova when it keeps its troops illegally on Moldovan territory. The second version of shortsightedness is that Russia is to blame for whatever happens in Moldova and the only solution is to unite with Romania. “It’s disgusting. What’s worse is that the message of solidarity between people in Moldova is barely getting a shape. Usually, politicians derive profits from social division. The Social-Democratic Party, a dead party with no future, is desperately trying to resuscitate itself by all kind of wicked initiatives”, explained Oazu Nantoi. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the presence of peacekeeping troops in the Security Area, the Social-Democratic Party sent a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian Minister of Defense Anatoly Serdyukov and the Tiraspol leader Yevgeny Shevchuk, acknowledging the latter as the “President of the Moldovan Republic on Nistru”. Also today, the PCRM municipal councilors in Balti voted for the organization of a referendum in September seeking to expand the municipality's autonomy. Prime Minister Vlad Filat requested the Security and Intelligence Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of the Interior to investigate the violation of legal norms by the Balti Municipal Council.
