Europeans have reserves over liberalization of visa regime for Moldovans

Citizens of Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands have reserves as regards the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldova owing to the unpleasant experiences with other states that earlier asked for such concessions, Manfred Grund, who is a member of the Foreign Policy Commission of the German Bundestag and the chairman of the Germany-Moldova Forum in Berlin, said in a meeting of the Chisinau Press Club, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The negotiations over the agreement on the liberalized visa regime between Moldova and the EU meet with certain reserves, but they are not related to Moldova and its people, but to the experiences with other states. It should be noted that the Moldovan foreign minister did a good work that contributed to the development of the negotiation process,” said Manfred Grund. He also said that a long distance was covered in the process of negotiating the Free Trade Agreement and 23 of the 25 chapters of the accord were examined and agreed. “As to Moldova’s accession to the EU, the question is not if, but when it will do it, and this ‘when’ depends on when Moldova is ready to take this step,” he stated, stressing that the EU expects that Moldova will fulfill all the accession conditions. Manfred Grund assured that Moldova enjoys the support of German Chancellor Angela Merkel as no other country in this region of Europe. According to him, Angela Merkel makes considerable effort to find a solution to the Transnistrian conflict.
