European Union vs Eurasian Union: 39.7% to 36.3%

In a referendum where the voters will have to choose between Moldova’s entry into the European Union and the country’s entry into the Eurasian Economic Union, 39.7% of the respondents of a poll would pick the first option, while 36.3% the second. Some 12.6% would vote for both of the options, while 2.1% would not take part in such a referendum. 9.3% of those interviewed didn’t want or didn’t know what to answer. The survey was conducted by the Public Opinion Fund during November 23-30, 2019, IPN reports.

According to the survey, 36% of the respondents consider Moldova should be closer to Europe, while 34% said it should be closer to the Russian Federation. 30% consider the country should have good relations with the West and with Russia too.

If a referendum on Moldova’s union with Romania was held, 56.7% of the respondents would vote against, while 29.3% would vote for. 5.9% of those surveyed would not take part in the referendum, while slightly over 8% do not know, haven’t yet decided or didn’t answer.

As to Moldova’s entry into NATO, 57% of those polled would vote against in a referendum, while 26.9% would vote for. Almost 8% would not take part in such a referendum, while slightly over 8% do not know, haven’t yet decided or didn’t answer.

The sociopolitical survey was commissioned by the portal Politics.md. It covered a sample of 1,201 persons, with the margin of sampling error being ± 2.8%.
