The European Union will continue to support the Republic of Moldova, but the government should devote more attention to the implementation of reforms, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
“The EU will not give up supporting the Republic of Moldova. For us, it is important to help the people of this country. But we cannot do reforms instead of you,” stated Tapiola.
The diplomat noted that he remains concerned about the situation in Moldova. “It’s not a big secret that I’m concerned about the situation in the Republic of Moldova. I continue to remain on the position of the statements made in February 2016, though things improved slightly. A lot of work is yet to be done in the financial system, the justice sector,” he said.
Asked to assess the Moldovan authorities’ fight against corruption, Tapiola answered: “The citizens of the Republic of Moldova are our partners. We offer assistance for them. It’s not important if we have confidence. It is important for the citizens to have confidence in the authorities. If the citizens have confidence, we will also have,” he stated.
