Europe Day is celebrated in Chisinau on May 14 and the European Town will be opened in Europe Square of the Public Garden “Stephan the Great and Holy” at 1pm, IPN reports.
According to the program, official speeches will be given by the EU Ambassador to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola and President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti. The event will also involve Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, and Mayor of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca.
A performance of music, organized by the EU member states, will take place between 1:20pm and 3pm. In the period, there will also be held a press briefing and a tour of the European Town.
Between 3pm and 4pm, DJ Syster will give a recital on behalf of the Embassy of Sweden. Between 1pm and 4pm, activities will be performed at the language school and in the children’s area. Starting at 4pm, concerts will be given by the Academy of Theater, Music and Plastic Arts. At 8pm, DJ Syster will hold a new concert, while a concert featuring national singers will start at 9pm. The Eurovision Song Contest will be then broadcast live.
The European Town will contain points of information about the EU assistance projects. The EU member states will present their culture. There will be staged a foreign language school and a gastronomic fair. The visitors will enjoy face-painting with EU flags and will be able to make a puzzle with the map of the EU.
Activities on the occasion of Europe Day will also be held in Balti. The Regional Development Agency Nord will mount an exhibition of caricatures about the differences between the European Union and Moldova in Vasile Alecsandri Square. A group of volunteers of the Center “Pro-Europe” Balti will stage a flashmob meeting and will distribute information leaflets about the EU in the center of the town. The Consul General of Romania in Balti Mihail Baciu will also take part in the event.
