The climate crisis is imminent, that is why it is important for everyone to be concerned about the environment, climate change and energy conservation. Our future depends on this. The climate crisis is a pressing reality and if we fail to act now, this will increasingly affect the future of young people. The messages were expressed on Friday, September 27, during the launch event of the European Sustainable Energy Week, IPN reports.
Peter Michalko, EU Ambassador to Chisinau, has said that the forward-looking climate policies promoted by the countries of the world influence the lives of citizens and the formation of a society more resilient to climate change. According to the ambassador, the risks arising from climate change are very high and they target the countries that are dependent on agricultural production, the agri-food sector, where these changes can have unpleasant effects. “Involving the younger generation and civil society is a prerequisite of success. It's time to respond to this call to action," contended Peter Michalko.
Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Vadim Brînzan, has mentioned that sustainable energy means energy efficiency, green energy and a clean environment. He has also said that one leu invested in green energy saves three lei. "Unfortunately, at present in the Republic of Moldova less than 1% of the produced energy is green energy. The mission is to increase this figure to 10% in the next five years,” mentioned Vadim Brînzan.
Alexandra Shiem, representative of the EBRD office in the Republic of Moldova, has specified that the institution represented by her implements a vast business consulting program in Moldova. At the same time, she states that one of the consultancy branches is to promote the use of energy efficient solutions for businesses, in order to reduce energy consumption and the negative impact on the environment. "Green energy must be implemented as a way to show care for the generations to come," said Alexandra Shiem.
According to Lilia Curchi, a communication expert at the Mayors' Convention on Climate and Energy, in the Republic of Moldova more and more attention is being paid to the renewable, green, sustainable energy sector. Therefore, the Convention aims to encourage local authorities to join this platform and develop programs to help citizens save energy sources, focus on renewable energy and develop programs to adapt to climate change.
During the European sustainable energy week, an exhibition of European technical assistance projects in the field of energy efficiency and climate actions is being inaugurated near the Triumph Arch in the center of the capital. At the same time, discussions and thematic presentations are organized with the participation of European programs and local environmental associations. Also, several activities for young people and children are organized.
