European standards on food processing and sale to be imposed in Moldova

The Cabinet approved the draft law on general hygiene requirements for food products that transposes the European norms in the field. The bill defines the general hygiene requirements for food products in the production, processing, keeping, transportation, selling and export processes, IPN reports.

The entrepreneurs will use drinking water to make food products and will choose appropriate rooms to prevent the contamination of products. The primary producers will ensure the cleanness of the slaughtered animals and will keep information about the products used to feed and care for animals and about the suffered diseases.

The draft law also contains requirements concerning the keeping, storing and sale of food products. These should be kept in clean rooms connected to sewerage and drinking water supply systems and with ventilation and lighting systems.

The National Food Safety Agency, together with business associations and competent institutions, will work out and will regularly update the Guidebook of Good Practices. This will be consultative in character and will contain guidelines about hygiene and control norms, possible dangers and required measures.
