The Rapporteur of the European Parliament for Moldova, Lithuanian MEP Petras Austrevicius will pay a visit to Chisinau on July 2-3. The program of the visit includes meeting with President Nicolae Timofti, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu and acting Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman, IPN reports.
According to the legislative body’s press service, Petras Austrevicius will have discussions with members of the Parliament’s commission on foreign policy and European integration, commission on human rights and interethnic relations, commission on appointments and immunities and with the leaders of parliamentary factions and representatives of the legislature’s secretariat. He will also meet with the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola and UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to Moldova Dafina Gercheva.
On July 3, the European Parliament’s rapporteur will visit the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, where he will have meetings with Bashkan Irina Vlah and representatives of the People’s Assembly. He will also visit the Parliament’s local information office in Comrat.
The MEP is also the coordinator of the program of cooperation between the European Parliament and Moldova’s Parliament for 2015. The program envisions the provision of assistance in adjusting the Moldovan legislation to the Community acquis, strengthening parliamentary commissions’ capacities and in staging parliamentary seminars, organization of fact-finding visits to the European Parliament, provision of scholarships to functionaries within the program “Democracy, etc.
