The European Parliament will bring up for discussion on Thursday 26 October a resolution regarding the Russian Federation’s trends to exert its influence on the Republic of Moldova and Georgia.
During parliamentary debates, which took place on Wednesday, within the framework of the European Parliament, Benita-Ferrero Waldner, European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood, stated that EU is concerned with the support that Russia offers to the separatists from Transnistria, and this can set hurdles in finding a solution to the conflict. Russia’s insistences on a “transit protocol” for Transnistria, which will recognize de facto this region as a commercial entity, are impediments for talks, the European commissioner says.
In this context, the Lithuanian MP Vytautas Landsbergis criticized the fact that Russia does not fulfill its commitments to withdraw the military troops from the territory of Georgia and Moldova. The present situation in Georgia was brought up for discussion during debates as well, European press reports.
A delegation of Chisinau Parliament, composed of MPs as Victor Stepaniuc, Angela Leahu, Serafim Urecheanu, Vladimir Filat and Stela Gherman, will also participate in the plenary meeting.
