The Committee on Budgets of the European Parliament on February 18 voted, among other things, to allocate additional funds to the states from the Eastern neighborhood, which includes Moldova, said MEP Siegfried Muresan, who is the Committee’s deputy head and rapporteur of the EPP Group on the 2017 EU Budget, IPN reports.

According to a press release of his team, the MEP said that it is an amendment of his, which provides that the European Union will offer additional financial support to the countries of the Eastern neighborhood.

“The Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, which are implementing association agreements with the European Union, need stronger support from us so as to fulfill the assumed commitments and do the so necessary reforms,” stated Siegfried Muresan.

The report on the general orientations of the 2017 EU Budget presents the European Parliament’s budgetary priorities before the adoption of the draft budget by the European Commission. The European Parliament will vote on the report in its plenary sitting of March 7 – 10.
