The European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs asks immediately liberalizing the visa regime for Moldovans. MEP Monica Macovei, together with the Commission’s President Elmar Brok and Permanent Rapporteur on Moldova Graham Watson, sent a relevant letter to the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, which is to pronounce on the European Commission’s proposal to abolish the visa requirements for Moldovans by February 12.
The letter highlights the progress made by Moldova during the last three years and a half, especially in the dialogue on visa liberalization. The result of these efforts was the initialing of the Association Agreement at the Vilnius Summit last November and the fact that Moldova was recognized as the first Eastern Partnership that fully fulfilled the Action Plan.
The three MEPs request effectively abolishing the visas this spring, before the end of tenure of the current European Parliament.
