European Parliament adopts new resolution on immigration

The European Parliament solved the failure of the Council of Europe (CoE), which did not manage to define a unitary policy on immigration. At the plenary reunion from Strasbourg, which took place on Thursday, September 28, the European Parliament adopted a resolution regarding the way the European Union must tackle the problem of immigration. The adopted text expresses regret about the “failure of the Council of Europe in defining a common policy” and emphasizes the necessity of integrating immigrants into the market of labor force, the Romanian press writes, cited by Info-Prim Neo. According to the resolution, any measure taken against immigration can not ignore the factors that determine immigrants to leave their countries, thus, partnership with the origin and transit countries must be instituted in order to administrate the migration inflows, to eliminate illegal migration and to organize informing campaigns about the conditions according to which EU member countries offer asylum. The initiators of the resolution consider that “dividing financial responsibilities and tasks between member countries must constitute a part of the immigration policy”. The document calls on the European Commission to propose, as fast as possible creating an emergency fund for financing specialized teams that would take over immigrants at the border and prevent humanitarian crises. The resolution submitted by the political groups of the European Socialist Party, Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, Party of the Greens and Party of the European United Left was adopted by 295 votes pro, 271 against and 14 abstained from voting
