France and Romania are near the Republic of Moldova in the European integration process, but support will be provided in exchange for results in the justice sector reform, fight against corruption and dialogue with civil society, Minister of State for European Affairs of France Harlem Désir, who is paying a working visit to Moldova together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Lazar Comanescu, said after a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affair and European Integration Andrei Galbur, IPN reports.
Harlem Désir told a news conference that the dialogue with civil society is needed for ensuring the support and confidence of the Moldovan people in institutions and reforms. “This is also needed for ensuring the economic development of the Republic of Moldova so that it can fully benefit from the provisions of the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Area,” he stated.
In the meeting, the officials discussed the results achieved by Moldova in the European integration process, the fight against corruption, the reform in the justice and financial-banking sectors.
For his part, Lazar Comanescu said the pro-European approach of Moldova is powerfully supported by society. They discussed the organization of a new meeting of the European Action Group for Moldova in the nearest future. “It is very important for the representatives of the Republic of Moldova, when this meeting is held, to be able to provide new arguments in favor of the actions taken here, in the country, to advance reforms and facilitate the road to Europe,” he stated.
Andrei Galbur noted that he and the European officials discussed the difficulties and institutional challenges faced in the process of implementing the laws and regulations adopted lately. “We hope that the officials will return to their capital cities with a powerful feeling of confidence in our capacity to fulfill the assumed commitments with seriousness and determination, convinced of our orientation based on our results for the benefit of the Moldovan people,” he said
The meeting also focused on the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, regional security and cooperation within the European Neighborhood Policy of the Eastern Partnership.
