European official: We are interested in real implementation of reforms in justice

The European partners are interested in the real implementation of reforms in the legal system of Moldova, said Aneil Singh, Head of Operations Section of the EU Delegation to Moldova. In the meeting of the Steering Committee of the Council of Europe’s project “Strengthening the efficiency of justice and support to lawyers’ profession in the Republic of Moldova, the official said the fight against corruption must be a priority. The participants in the meeting summed up the results of the first part of the project that was launched last June. In the period, a number of foreign experts analyzed the activity of the judicial system and the advocacy, IPN reports.

Representatives of the EU Delegation to Moldova, European experts, lawyers and judges discussed the first results obtained within the project and the future priorities. Aneil Singh voiced hope that concrete results will be obtained in implementing this project that will last until 2017.

Project officer Ruslan Grebencea said that when the project was launched they started work on the advocacy development strategy for 2016-2020. He underlined the importance of training the lawyers of Moldova throughout this project. Among the results achieved within the project, Ruslan Grebencea mentioned the introduction of new internal regulations for ensuring the protection of personal data of clients in disciplinary proceedings against lawyers and the revision of the Lawyers’ Code of Ethics that is to be approved in several months.

Projects coordinator Oxana Gutu said the partnerships between the Moldovan lawyers are to be extended in the framework of the project in 2016, both at national and foreign levels.
