European official calls on authorities to continue reforms in justice

Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks called upon the Moldovan authorities to continue the reforms initiated in the justice sector. The official had a meeting with Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry of Justice. Nils Muiznieks inquired about the steps taken by the Moldovan authorities to implement the justice sector reform strategy. Oleg Efrim said the reform done now in the legal system is the most ambitious one in the last 20 years. The two officials conferred on the measures that must be taken to ensure the independence of judges and to make them more responsible. Nils Muiznieks will be in Moldova until March 7. It is his first official visit to Moldova. The Commissioner will have meetings with President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, and a number of ministers.
