The European course of the Republic of Moldova should become irreversible and the “Russian world” no longer represents an alternative that earlier lured the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, said PAS MP Virgiliu Pâslariuc. According to him, the government is determined to start the accession negotiations with the EU as soon as possible. For his part, the member of Moldova’s First Parliament Alecu Reniță said the Europeans integration should become Moldova’s country project, IPN reports.

According to representatives of the government, the European Parliament’s decision to ask for the initiation of the EU accession negotiations with Moldova by the end of this year is a clear signal that Moldova is welcome in the European family. MP of the ruling party Virgiliu Pâslariuc admitted that there are political forces that try to block the European integration process and to thwart the European course.

“The Assembly of May 21 will conform that we are seriously committed to the European integration process. We must return to the European space as we form part of this space both historically and in terms of values. We are now determined to take the step towards the European political space, which means security, prosperity and freedom. We need the European development model not for Europe, but for us. It is a viable model that shows that it can bring benefits to the citizens. The case of Romania is for us eloquent and visible. There are forces that want to turn us back from this path, but we are determined to show that the European course is irreversible. It is the project of our generation. “The “Russian world” no longer offers the alternative that could earlier lure a part of the citizens,” PAS MP Virgiliu Pâslariuc stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

The member of Moldova’s First Parliament Alecu Reniță said that the war in Ukraine shows that Russia is an aggressive, oppressive and dictatorial state that cannot serve as a model of development for the Republic of Moldova.

“The Republic of Moldova has a lot of friends. In decisive moments, the votes in the European Parliament favored us. This means responsibility for the whole Moldovan society not to miss the historical chance of integrating into the Romanian and European space, which is absolutely different from the “Russian world”. When we want to detach ourselves from Russia, this does not mean we have Russophobe feelings. We just say that we do not want to live by the model of tsarist Russia, Soviet Russia or Putinist Russia. We are Europeans and need to return home. At home means equally Romania and Europe,” stated Alecu Reniță.

On April 19, the European Parliament adopted a resolution where it notes that the EU accession negotiations with Moldova must start by the end of 2023, following the fulfillment of the nine steps identified by the European Commission. The resolution was carried by adopted by 555 votes in favor, 49 against with 26 abstentions.
