The European Heritage Days, which this year are dedicated to the industrial and technical heritage, were opened in Chisinau. The event was staged at the historical monument of national importance “Chisinau Tram Depot”, where, after the official opening, the participants were given a guided tour, IPN reports.
“The tramway tracks weren’t removed. They were covered with asphalt and remained intact. We wanted the people to come here and see where the life of public transport started – from the trolleybus of 1966 up to the current fourth-generation trolleybuses,” said the director general of the Chisinau Electric Transport Service Gheorghe Morgoci.
“This is a European tradition that we share not only with the mind, but also with the soul. The European Heritage Days are a nice occasion for all the peoples of the world to remember what the precursors created. This year, we have a rare occasion to discuss the industrial heritage as we know that our country kept windmills, watermills, old factories, tramp depots and railway terminals that already became part of the heritage,” Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said in the opening of the event.
The events related to the European Heritage Days started with an exhibition of graphics of the heritage of the National Museum of Arts on September 22. Different exhibitions are mounted during the five days dedicated to the industrial heritage. The National Museum of History houses the collections of the Iasi Museum of Technology, while another exhibit was mounted at the Museum of Ethnography and Natural History. The exhibit “Art FABRIC”, staged by the EU Delegation to Moldova, is opened on September 25. This exhibition includes paintings made by young plastic artists of Moldova. The Industrial Heritage Days are closed at the Railway Terminal in Ungheni on September 27.
