Four European films were shown in the Public Garden “Stephan the Great” in central Chisinau on May 13 as part of the European Film and Culture Festival that was staged by the EU Delegation to Moldova in connection with Europe Day. These included the Romanian film “Octav”,”The Parents” made in Germany, “Ego” of Sweden and “Dalida” of France, IPN reports.
In the inaugural ceremony, the Head of the EU Delegation Peter Michalko said the European Film and Culture Festival brings together all the Europeans in the Republic of Moldova and those from the European Union. The event shows that the culture and traditions are very important, especially because this year was declared the European Year of Cultural Heritage in the EU.
Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research Elena Belei said that by celebrating Europe Day in Moldova, the Moldovan citizens show their adherence to the European values. “By celebrating the events of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, we show that we are part of the European civilization not only geographically, but also historically and culturally. Our people are thirsty for culture as the land is thirty for rain,” she stated.
Within the festival, the visitors could take part in a series of events designed to offer a general picture of the European cultural diversity, with screenings of European films, performances of classical music and jazz. During May 13 and June 3, the European Film and Culture Festival will be staged in a number of communities in Moldova.
