European Film Festival Week closes with solidarity message

The European Film Festival ended on May 16 with the Polish movie “Walesa, Man of Hope” (2013). Director Andrzej Wajda dedicated the film to former Polish President Lech Walesa. The movie presents the portrait of the former Polish leader and a message in favor of the freedom of the masses, IPN reports

Moldova’s First Lady Margareta Timofti said the people in Moldova must be united so as to keep the freedom and culture of the country and the film conveys namely such a message.

The First Lady of Poland Anna Komorowski welcomed the public and thanked Margareta Timofti for the invitation to visit Moldova. She said that in periods of transition, the people face challenges, but they can overcome their problems with more courage and confidence.

The film presents Poland before the great transformations and lays emphasis on the Communist period in Poland, the meetings of the Communist Party monopolized by the speeches given by blackmailed workers, the workers’ reaction and the difficulties they experience in the struggle for their rights.

The screening was attended by Polish Ambassador in Chisinau Artur Mihalski and other diplomats working in Moldova.
