An audit mission of the European Commission’s Food Veterinary Office visited a number of Moldovan producers of poultry and eggs. Vitalie Caraus, division head at the National Food Safety Agency, in the program “Dialog” on Agro TV Moldova channel, said the mission came to examine the situation in the poultry breeding sector of Moldova and whether Moldova is allowed to export poultry and eggs to the EU or not depends on its results, IPN reports.
Vitalie Caraus stated that the Republic of Moldova learned the lesson following the previous audit missions and removed the shortcomings and this time showed that it has safe products of a high quality. “The poultry and eggs are the products that Moldova tends to place on the EU market. We have great production capacities,” he said.
The European experts aimed to convince themselves that no antibiotics are used when treating the birds and that the poultry breeding requirements are met. “The European experts visited “Avicola” and other poultry breeding companies and saw that everything is as it should be. They also checked if no banned veterinary medicines are used to treat the birds. We inform the producers about the banned drugs,” stated Vitalie Caraus.
The audit mission of the Food Veterinary Office of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Health and Food Safety carried out examinations in Moldova on January 25-29. Its results will be made public at end-February. The authorities will have 25 days to examine the report and take the measures needed to start to export or to remove the faults, if there are such.
Moldova was earlier visited by two audit missions of the European Commission. The first mission examined the apiculture products and the country was allowed to export bee honey to the EU market. After the second mission in pisciculture, the Moldovan producers were allowed to export only caviar.
