European diplomats welcome investiture of new Government

The diplomats working in Chisinau welcomed the investiture of the new Government in Chisinau, with the EU expressing readiness to negotiate a new cooperation agreement with Moldova as soon as possible, the Government says in a press release, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. At a meeting of Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the diplomatic corps in Chisinau, the head of the Swedish Mission for Cooperation with Moldova Julius Liljeström handed a declaration from the Swedish Presidency of the EU over to the new Premier. The declaration says that the European Union welcomes the investiture of the new Cabinet, praises it for its contribution to the development of the democratic processes and expresses its certitude that the cooperation with the EU will be responsible, based on political principles. Julius Liljeström stressed that the constitution of the new Government is an important step in dealing with the challenges faced by Moldova, mainly those deriving from the world economic and financial crisis, and will stimulate the implementation of reforms. “The EU calls on the political players to hold a constructive political dialogue and complete the post-electoral political processes, in particular the election of a new head of state,” the declaration says. Kalman Mizsei, the EU Special Representative for Moldova, transmitted the congratulations of the Secretary General of the Council of the EU Javier Solana to the new Prime Minister, saying that one of the major tasks of the new ministers is to strengthened trust in the new Government, especially of the Transnistrian population. Kalman Mizsei assured that the EU will continue to be a reliable partner of Moldova in the European integration process and will provide assistance in reunifying the country. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that the European integration is now the principal objective of the country and its people and that the representatives of the new Government are ready to learn from the experience of other states.
