European Council President to visit Chisinau

The President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy will pay a visit to Moldova on July 6. According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the high-ranking European official will have a number of meetings with Moldovan officials, including representatives of the opposition, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Ministry’s press service said the European Council President will arrive in Moldova at noon. He will be accompanied by his wife Geertrui. At the Chisinau International European, he will be met by Prime Minister Vlad Filat and his wife Sanda. At 12.35, Herman Van Rompuy will have a meeting with Vlad Filat. Afterward, the two officials will give a joint news conference. The European official will also meet with Head of Parliament and Acting President of Moldova Marian Lupu at 13.40. The program of the visit also includes meetings with the Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu and the leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin, at about 16.00. Earlier, Speaker Marian Lupu said that Herman Van Rompuy will give a speech before the Moldovan lawmakers during a festive meeting of the legislature. Herman Van Rompuy comes to Moldova at the invitation of Premier Vlad Filat, which was made during a visit to Brussels on March 25.
