Europe Day is an occasion for celebrating everything we managed to achieve over the last few years, the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said in a news conference centering on the Europe Day celebrations in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Dirk Schuebel said that Europe Day will be marked in Chisinau and Comrat during May 12-19. It is an occasion for promoting the European values, cultural diversity and the assistance offered by the European Union to Moldova. It is also an opportunity to bring culture closer to the people by educational and recreational activities.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca said that during the last year Moldova took definite steps at national and foreign levels. The country is plenarily and irreversibly involved in modernization in line with the European values and principles. “As you know, the European integration for Moldova is a strategic development and modernization objective. The authorities direct all the efforts towards achieving this objective,” he stated.
Europe Days in Moldova will be officially opened in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau at 2pm on May 12. Tents of the embassies of the EU member states will be put up in the square, as last year. The visitors of the “European Village” will receive information about the European languages, culture, traditions and cuisines. They will be able to taste Italian tortellini, Spanish paella, and Czech beer. The representatives of Germany, France, Turkey, Estonia and Belgium will also present traditional foods. ‘Linguistic corners’ will be set up within the “European Village”, where the visitors will be able to learn key words and phrases in different languages of the EU.
There will be staged public debates on political and economic aspects of the cooperation between the EU and Moldova. They will involve EU ambassadors and high-ranking Moldovan officials. The debates will be held in a question-answer format and will last for 90 minutes. A similar program will take place in Comrat on May 19.
The celebrations are organized by the EU Delegation to Moldova and are supported financially by Sudzucker, Orange, Agroindbank Moldova, and Flor Art.
