Of the 23% Euro-unionist voters, only 6% decided which of the pro-Romanian parties existing in Moldova to vote for and will take part in the upcoming parliamentary elections. This shows the Euro-unionists will be unable to propel their political representatives in the next legislature, political analyst Anatol Țăranu was quoted by IPN as saying in a program on Moldova 1 channel.
The analyst noted the unionist parties will not manage to prepare for elections and to achieve a good result in the upcoming parliamentary elections because the most recent polls show the situation on the pro-Romanian segment is deplorable. The pro-Romanian electoral base makes up almost 23% and only 6% of these voters decided who to vote for. “This shows that there is no political party that could make the Euro-unionists unite on the political arena of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Anatol Țăranu. He added the 6% of decided voters will vote for different parties and their votes will be thus dispersed and an extremely important and large segment of Moldovan society will remain without a political representative in the next Parliament.
The president of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko said the upcoming elections are specific as they will be held according to a new electoral system. 2019 will be a dangerous year as this can be similar to 2001, when the left went up in polls. They made statements and had discussions and decided it is very important for the pro-Romanian parties to take part in the elections in a bloc. “We discussed with parties we consider eligible for the Liberal union and then discussed with representatives of unionist parties and now reached the phase when these parties are expected to take decisions. These decisions could be taken even on the last 100 meters,” stated the politician.
Secretary general of the Ecologist Green Party (PVE) Vitalie Marinuța said his party took part in all the discussions held by the pro-European and unionist parties. Even if the PVE is not a unionist party by its doctrine, it has a powerful branch of unionist members and these make their voice heard. “We hope a lot that the Euro-unionist parties in the end will reach that compromise and will found a bloc that will enable all of us to make ourselves heard. We should ensure the union of Euro-unionists’ votes that are scattered so that we have a say in the next Parliament,” noted the politician.
The member of the Political Bureau of the Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) Valeriu Saharneanu stated the discussions with the dialogue partners advanced at a certain moment, but the PLR withdrew to meditate on the proposal. “We do not want to do this formally, for the sake of a union of parties that will only announce the union. We want an effect,” stated the politician, adding he wants an efficient bloc of pro-European and unionist parties.
The next parliamentary elections will take place on February 24, 2019.
