The Chisinau-based Theater “Eugene Ionesco” will have the status of national theater, IPN reports, quoting a Government decision taken in the May 31 meeting of the Cabinet.
As it was said in the meeting, the provision of the status of national theater was decided based on an application by the theater and in a move to recognize the special merits of the theater’s personnel.
The Theater “Eugene Ionesco” was founded on September 11, 1991. In 1993, the theater became a member of the Informal European Theatre Meeting. It organizes the International Biennale “Eugene Ionesco” (BITEI). This year’s festival of the kind is held between May 27 and June 5.
