{Join us for Theater. Starting with September 8, the agency Info-Prim Neo will publish a series of news stories about the 2009-2010 theatrical season as seen by the Moldovan actors, with the prepared surprises.} Eugene Ionesco Theater is opening its season on a new stage in the building of a former dance club on Renasterii Boulevard. The theater’s literary secretary, Rodica Tomasenco, has told Info-Prim Neo that the 2009/2010 season at Eugen Ionesco will start on September 18 with the Austrian playwright Werner Schwab’s “Die Prasidentinnen” (translated into Romanian as “Sefele” /“The She-Bosses”/, known in English translation as “The Holy Mothers”). The three she-bosses will be played by Irena Boclinca (as Grete), Dana Ciobanu (as Erna) and Maia Grosu (as Mariedl). “Each of the characters portrays essential dimensions of human existence: spirituality, vitality, absurdity”, says Tomasenco. Other plays in the theater’s 09/10 season include Eugen Ionesco’s absurdist comedy “The Lesson”, Brian McAvera’s “Picasso’s Women, Jacqueline”, and “Stop Eu.ro.PA!” by Moldovan playwright Nicoleta Esinencu. “The plays have rather low budgets, compensated by greater involvement by the actors; the renovation of the theater’s building is now a priority”, Tomasenco explains. This season the theater will be also engaged in preparing the 2010 BITEI Festival and a series of events to celebrate Ionesco’s 100th anniversary in November 2010, which Tomasenco promised to be delightful and appealing to the audience from across the country.
