Eugen Tomac, the representative of the Romanians from Moldova in the Parliament of Romania, Saturday opened a parliamentary office in Chisinau. It will provide advice to the Romanians from Moldova as to how to solve problems that are within the competence of the MP of College 2 for Romanians from Abroad, IPN reports.

In the opening ceremony, Eugen Tomac said the obligation of a lawmaker is to maintain the dialogue with the citizens whom he represents. “As the number of Romanian citizens in Moldova is very high and the problems they face are growing bigger, they can come to this office to tell about their problems, starting with those concerning citizenship, the consular aspect, etc.,” said Tomac. He also said that he will come to Chisinau once in two weeks, together with other Romanian MPs, to provide consultancy to the people.

Attending the event, MEP Elena Basescu, Romanian President’s daughter, said that she has waited for this parliamentary office to be opened in Chisinau for five years. “The Republic of Moldova for me represents more than a neighboring state. It is my daily preoccupation. When I became a MEP, I decided to represent your voice too in Brussels and Strasbourg. Moldova has only one road, to the West. Moldova and Romania must be in the European Union,” said Elena Basescu.

Eugen Tomac won the elections in College 2 for Romanians from Abroad with over 78% of the vote in Moldova and other states. He heads the commission for Romanian communities from outside the county’s borders in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania.
