The goal of the Moldovan authorities is to bring the two banks of the Nistru River closer. In this connection, the notion of ‘civilized divorce’ can be supported neither by Chisinau nor by the international community, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov said in the annual conference “Confidence-Building Measures in the Transnistrian Settlement” that was held in the German town Freising on June 10-11, IPN reports.

According to the Reintegration Office, the participants continued to debate the subjects discussed in the new round of “5+2” Transnistrian settlement negotiations held in Vienna on June 5-6. There were staged thematic sessions centering on education, ecology, trade, commerce, transport, and infrastructure. Special attention was devoted to the problem of the Moldovan-administered, Latin-script schools in Transnistria.

At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister thanked Germany and the OSCE for the assistance offered in organizing the event, underlining its importance and potential in the Transnistrian settlement process.

The conference was organized by the OSCE Mission to Moldova under the auspices of the Serbian-Swiss OSCE Chairmanship and the Government of Germany. The event involved the political negotiators, the heads of the sector Working Groups of Chisinau and Tiraspol, representatives of the “5+2” format and foreign experts.
