The Economic Crimes and Corruption Combating Center (ECCCC) and the UE Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) will continue cooperating in 2009 to improve their work in key sectors fro both structures, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Anti-Corruption Squad's press service, an EUBAM delegation headed by mission chief Ferenc Banfi paid a visit to the ECCCC on January 20. Ferenc Banfi showed satisfaction as to the results of bilateral cooperation in 2008, highlighting their sustainability and efficiency. The official reiterated his idea to appoint an anti-corruption expert to work in the ECCCC and advise the latter's specialists. Banfi wants the Center to determine the profile of the expert to know exactly what the ECCCC's needs are. “We can appoint one or two experts,” Ferenc Banfi said. The ECCCC's head Sergiu Burduja has appreciated EUBAM's initiative suggesting to draft lists of items of common interest needing the experts' experience. The drafted list is to be presented at the next sitting planned for mid-February. The parties have stressed the role of EUBAM and the ECCCC in monitoring and insuring the security of the Moldo-Ukrainian border. The squad's chief says his center intervene and investigate, independently and impartially, infractions related to border crossing. “It's important that the exchange of information between EUBAM and the ECCCC yields the expected results,” Burduja said.
