The localities in the districts of Leova, Strășeni and Edineț will have the best local public services, social and economic infrastructure accessible to women and men, business opportunities and workplaces and accelerated local development based on the active participation of communities. The three regions are beneficiaries of the ”EU4Moldova: Local Communities” project that was launched on Wednesday together with the holding of the first meeting of the Supervisory Board, IPN reports.
The project ”EU4Moldova: Local Communities” is implemented as a Team Europe Initiative, with financial support from the European Union, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development), the Austrian Development Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland – Polish aid. “In time, our country benefitted from a considerable number of development projects implemented with the European Union’s financial and technical support. This time again, the EU offers an assistance package through the agency of a very complex program that aims to improve the quality of life in rural communities,” said the Government’s secretary general Dumitru Udrea, who chaired the meeting of the Supervisory Board.
Attending the event, EU Ambassador in Chisinau Jānis Mažeiks said that the program is important in the broad meaning of the EU-Moldova cooperation for a number of reasons. “Firstly, the program focuses on the development of rural areas, improvement of the quality of life all over the country, creation of equal chances for everyone, without leaving anyone behind. Secondly, this is a Team Europe Initiative. It includes the common provision not only of significant financial resources but also of expertise, technologies and the best practices and also the aligning of approaches as to help Moldova advance in its new role, of EU candidate country,” stated the diplomat.
The implementation period will last until December 2025. The project has a total budget of €27.4 million and is implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ, the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the Solidarity Fund PL (SFPL) in Moldova.
