EU water sector support program 75% fulfilled

The EU water sector support program was 75% fulfilled in 2011. In a meeting of the Government, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said that this figure is a remarkable result, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the executive.
Dirk Schuebel stated that the assessment for 2010 showed that the program was only 47% fulfilled that year. The results achieved in 2011 point to a significant progress in this respect.
The main objective of this Sector Policy Support Program is to support Moldova in the implementation of reforms in its drinking water and sanitation sector, by providing finance, technical assistance and policy dialogue for priority activities of high-relevance for the Moldovan population and environment. There will be decentralized the water supply and sewerage services, promoted the social partnership and strengthened the public procurement process.
This year’s tasks include drafting secondary legislation on the implementation of the Water Law (23 regulations), updating the water supply and sewerage strategy until September, implementing water supply and sewerage projects in three towns and 12 villages, ensuring the people’s access to new or rehabilitated water supply and sewerage systems.
The water sector support program has a budget of €50 million, €42 million of which represents budget support. The program will continue until December 2017.
