The abolition of the EU visa requirements for Moldovans was possible owing to the efforts made by the foreign partners, not to the efforts of the current government, said the head of the People’s Movement “Antimafie” Sergiu Mocanu. According to him, the EU and the U.S. make everything possible for Moldova to become an EU member state, at a time when the Moldovan government continues to rob the country, the economic entities pay illegal taxes for parties’ election campaigns, while the people live in poverty.
The liberalized visa regime with the EU and the Association Agreement that is to be signed are an ‘advance’ offered by the EU to Moldova because the country can be covered by Russia’s expansion plans, Sergiu Mocanu said in a news conference at IPN. “The People’s Movement “Antimafie”, which welcomes the event (the abolition of visas), will not celebrate it alongside other parties in the Great National Assembly Square because this event is related to a series of dramatic situations in Moldova,” he stated.
Sergiu Mocanu underlined that while the EU and the U.S. are concerned about the shaping of Moldova’s European path, the Prosecutor General’s Office continues to manufacture criminal cases and protects the national mafia. “The mass media, most of which is controlled by Vlad Plahotniuc and Vlad Filat, celebrate the own existence by subjects that are not related to the realities in Moldova, while the companies pay very large sums of money for the future election campaign of the Liberal Democratic Party,” he said, adding that “Antimafie” wants the Association Agreement to be signed and hopes that this accord will help remove the mafia from the government
Starting with April 28, the Moldovans holding biometric passports can travel freely in the EU for 90 days during half a year. Visas are still required for entering the UK and Ireland. Moldova is expected to sign the Association Agreement with the EU this June.
