The European Union sends positive signals to Moldova, but the Moldovan people and the authorities must realize that there is yet a lot of work to be done, said analysts, referring to the European Parliament’s resolution that welcomes the initialing of the Association Agreement with Moldova at the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit and expresses hope that the document will be signed as soon as possible, IPN reports.

In the program “Fabrica” on Publika TV, analyst Viorel Cibotaru said the changes will be very beneficial to Moldova and the Moldovan people must feel these benefits as soon as possible. When the accord is signed and implemented, Moldova will be 80% integrated into the EU. The other 20% will mean that Moldova is not yet represented in the European institutions.

According to Viorel Cibotaru, some of the political forces that are not represented in Parliament make effort to present the European integration as a danger. But there are real foreign dangers like Russia, which will make everything possible for Moldova not to associate itself and not to sign the Association Agreement.

Political analyst Ion Tabarata said that Moldova’s road to the EU means economic and social as well as political modernization, which implies the establishment of the rule of law. For the purpose, Moldova will have to implement rather painful reforms.

Ion Tabarta also said that the modernization process lasts long also because of the politicians who delay providing the people with explicit information about the values and benefits of the EU. The analysts’ community and the mass media must also become involved in this process.
