EU ready to provide over 1.3m euros to Transnistria for different projects

The new Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Moldova Dirk Schuebel promoted the second package of confidence building measures worth about 1.3 million euros for Transnistria while on a visit to Tiraspol.
“The aim of the visit was to get acquainted with Igor Smirnov and to present a new package of confidence building measures,” Dirk Schuebel stated for Info-Prim Neo.
The European official spoke about the first effects of the first set of measures. He said the social and ecological projects produced good results in the Transnistrian region.
“The second package was approved recently. Its value for the Transnistrian region is about 1.3 million euros,” Dirk Schuebel said. “The measures are aimed at supporting the businesses and the civil society in Transnistria.”
The European mission also plans to renew the efforts aimed at solving the problem of railways in Transnistria. “We want that the railways in the region become operable for the entire population,” Schuebel said.
The European official also said that a group of French and Lithuanian experts will visit Chisinau and Tiraspol in the second week of February. They will provide assistance and open the talks over the issue of Transnistrian railways.
Dirk Schuebel said his first visit to Tiraspol as Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova was interesting. He voiced hope it will contribute to the improvement of the situation on both bank of the Nistru.
